abstract
in this essay, scarlett’s brilliant character, which was created by margaret mitchell, was explicitly analyzed and discussed mitchell received abundant stories about civil war in childhood, which she combined the monumental novel gone with the wind first ,this novel introduced mitchell’s connection with this novel and scarlet briefly. then, analyzed scarlett’s so called hysterical personality thoroughly. she is vain, egocentric, selfish and self-indulgent. but she is complicated; she was imbued with inherited brave, determined, obstinate and self-striving gleams. all these characters have a deep and determinative influence on her life and love. she claimed to strive and compete to gain success, even deceive others and speculate. she is a successful self-fighter and pragmatist, but no doubt, she is an underdog in love affairs.
